NEW DELHI, Aug 19: India’s Gaurav Ghei has been voted Johnnie Walker Asian Golfer of the Month for July, following his outstanding qualification in the British Open at Troon.

Ghei, who beat world number five Colin Montgomerie to secure India’s shock win over Scotland in last year’s Alfred Dunhill Cup at St Andrews, made a resounding return to Scotland with a seven under par 135 in the qualifying rounds on the Irvine Bogside course.

Recently nominated as Mahindra Golfer of the Year, Ghei’s golfing highlight include a win at

the 1995 Gadgil Western Masters after chipping in at the final hole. Since turning pro in December 1991, Ghei has ten Indian Tour events to his name together.

The award winners get a specially-inscribed Tiffany of London trophy. In addition, golf development programmes in the winner’s home country receive a cash donation from Johnnie Walker.
