MUMBAI, SEPT 28: Bengal left-hander Rohan Gavaskar has lost an opportunity to impress the National selectors as he had to pull out of the India A squad to take on the visiting New Zealand cricketers in their three-day tour opener commencing at Pune on September 30 because of back problem.

“Rohan has informed the cricket board that he was not available to do duty for India A because he had been advised rest yesterday by his doctor who is treating him for his back problem,” Board’s executive secretary Sharad Diwadkar said.

“His place in the 14-member squad announced earlier would not be filled in by any one else as the selection committee has authorised chairman Chandu Borde to keep one local player on standbye duty to perform the reserve’s role,” Diwadkar added.

Gavaskar was part of the India A squad which is to be led by Amol Muzumdar against the Kiwis.
