CHANDIGARH, DEC 15:The local Government College for Girls-11 made an unceremonious exit in the Panjab University Inter-College women's zonal hockey tournament held at PU Campus here today. In a do or die situation, GCG-11 lost 0-2 to Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana.It was a sweet victory for Ludhiana girls, who in their debut made it to the league stage, which will begin tomorrow at 2 p.m.Defending champions MCM DAV-36 and Government College-42 are directly seeded into the semifinals (league stage).The match began on a dull note and both the teams failed to take the game to dizzy heights in the 70-minute contest. Players of both the sides played unimaginative hockey.Though, Ludhiana team had ball possession in the first half of the contest, but they failed to put the ball across the rival goalie Anita, who twice made brilliant saves.However, both the goals, which came within a span of nine minutes in the second session, were not the outcome of a planned move. They came in a rush.GCG's defence, which had put up brave front in the first half, gave way in the opening minute of the second half, when Sunaina scored in a goal-mouth melee.A lapse in GCG's defence in the 44th minute paved way for the second goal also.
