
CHANDIGARH, Dec 1: An inter-college debate on "In the opinion of the House, the world civilisation is doomed to die of AIDS" was organised by the Literary and Debating Society and the NSS units of Government College for Girls, Sector 11, here today.
The event was inaugurated by G.S. Bhatti, PU Assistant Programme Adviser NSS.
A rebuttal session was also held after the contest.
Latika of GCG-11 won the first prize, Ashwinder Singh of SGGS Khalsa College won the second prize and Sajan Singh of Government College, Sector 11, won the third prize. Later, college Principal Vijay Lakshmi gave away the prizes to the winners. Homoeopathic College hosts literary events.
Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Sector 26, today organised various literary events to mark the World AIDS Day.
A poster-making, on-the-spot slogan-writing and essay-writing competitions were held on the occasion. Gunjan Garg bagged the first prize, Ambika Kapoor – second place and Mandeep Kaur won the third prize for debating on "Youth is an easy prey to AIDS". NSS volunteers organise camps.
National Social Services (NSS) volunteers of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 23, organised four one-day camps on the school campus. Daily 50 NSS volunteers participated in several activities organised. These activities included cleanliness of the school campus, removal of congress grass and hedges, coating of tree-trunks with lime (to protect them from termites) and levelling of the ground. On the occasion, Principal S.K. Sharma delivered a lecture on the aim and role of the NSS. He appealed the volunteers to develop dignity of labour.
Today, on the World AIDS Day, a slogan and poster writing competition was organised on the theme, "AIDS – A fatal disease". In the junior category, Renu stood first. In the senior category, Jagtar Rana bagged the first prize.
Seminar held at Sec 40 high school
AIDS Prevention Society, Government High School, Sector 40, organised a seminar on World AIDS Day to spread awareness among students about the causes, effects and prevention of AIDS. Ravinder Kaur and Praneet Pratima delivered various lectures on the subject. They also provided information as to how the society could tackle the problem.
Contest on Listen, learn and live’
An essay-writing competition on "Listen, learn and live" was held at the Government College of Education, Sector 20, here today.
Following are the results of the contest:
English category: Rupinder Kaur bagged the first prize, Yogeshwar Singh won the second prize, and Shiba bagged the third prize.
Hindi category: Shallu won the first prize, Pramod Kumar won the second prize, while Santosh won the third prize.
Punjabi category: Pawan Virdi won the first prize, Sukhwinder Singh the second and Parlad Singh won the third prize.
