VADODARA, July 27: The Gujarat Electricity Board has warned municipalities and municipal corporations to disconnect power supply to water works and streetlight installations if they failed to pay the outstanding amount of Rs 22 crore within 10 days.

Board Member (Administration) S K Nanda told Express Newsline that the Board had been was forced to issue a notice on Monday because of the losses — estimated at more than Rs 400 crores — it had had to suffer in the wake of the cyclone last month. Nanda said gram panchayats had also been issued notices to repay their outstanding amount of Rs 4 crore. It was all the more essential that the payments were realised as power consumption — and, consequently, bills — was low during the monsoons.

He further said the Board had also asked the State Government to expedite a grant to the Board from the Cyclone Relief Fund.

The Board has sought Rs 300 crore from the government. Nanda said the GEB had also asked the State Govt.
