Police on Tuesday placed under house arrest leader of the breakaway faction of the Hurriyat, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Democratic Freedom Party chief Shabir Ahmad Shah.

Criticising the police action, Shah said he was planning to visit Jama Masjid to participate in the Nimaz-e-Jinazah of Maulvi Mushtaq Ahmed, the Awami Action Committee leader and Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq’s uncle, who died on Monday.

‘‘On one hand, he (CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed) is propagating a dialogue with all for resolution of the Kashmir issue, while on the other, he is placing restrictions on the movement of political leaders to prevent them from performing their religious duties and meeting the public’’.

Yesterday, police arrested former Hizbul commander Abdul Aaziz Dar, who heads the Tehreek-e-Kashmir, from Khanyar in downtown Srinagar.
