GGS College bag weightlifting title

CHANDIGARH, Jan 27: Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh claimed three golds and two bronze medals to win the inaugural Panjab University Inter-College women’s weightlifting championship at the PU Indoor Hall here today. MCM DAV College, Sector bagged five silvers and two bronze medals to get second position. Both GGS-26 and MCM DAV College secured 20 points each, but the former had three golds as compared to the latter’s none.

Government College for Girls, Sector 11 with 17 points took the third position.

There was a keen enthusiasm among the participants which reflected in competitions in some weight categories.

In the 54 kg category, Renu of GGS Collge, Sector 26 and Sonika of MCM DAV College lifted 27.5 kg in snatch. But in clean and jerk Renu lifted 40 kg in her last attempt while Sonika, who lifted a comfortable 37.5 kg in her second attempt, failed at 40 kg in her third attempt, only to be pushed to the second place.
