SURAT, June 29: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has demanded that in view of the delayed results of annual examinations conducted by the South Gujarat University, students should be given provisional admission in second year and third year of Arts, Commerce and Science courses.

Parishad Assistant Secretary Tejdeep Vansia stated the university should also introduce the facility of registration for external students at under- graduate level.

Criticising what it called “some vested interests” who in their bid to hold to ransom the vice-chancellor kept in their custody answerscripts long enough to delay announcement of results, the parishad said no one was sure how long would it take for the results to be announced.

In this atmosphere of uncertainty it was better to start courses from July 2 by giving provisional admissions to students. Also, strict action be taken against teachers, who are yet to hand over answerscripts to moderators even after their association struck a compromise with the university.

The parishad said the SGU should also introduce registration for external students on the lines of Gujarat University. The facility will help poor and disadvantaged students who can’t pay the college fees. This will also help the employed persons.

Renewing its opposition to four unit tests every year, the parishad said when the university could not conduct even three tests successfully and the system had become a headache for both teachers and students, the old system of two internal examinations should be adhered to. It requested Syndicate members to strongly oppose the practice.

A delegation of parishad members called on Vice-Chancellor Ashwin Kapadia on Monday and submitted a memorandum to him raising the above demands.
