Fleming to undergo surgery

CHRISTCHURCH: New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming is to undergo an operation for a groin injury tomorrow which has kept him out of all but the first of five One-Day Internationals against India.

Fleming will miss the first three of six One-Day Internationals against the South Africans and also probably the first Test, beginning in Auckland on February 27.

MELBOURNE: Jeff Tarango, the player who once prepared for Wimbledon by playing a clay court tournament, is still bucking the trend. Now he has challenged John McEnroe to play him for $100,00 to prove the former triple Wimbledon champion is past it.

The 39-year-old McEnroe claimed recently he was still playing well enough to beat anyone in the top 100. So Tarango took him up.

Tarango, ranked 66th in the world, said every player except Andre Agassi, who he claimed was ready to bet $100,000 he would lose to McEnroe, was ready to back him.
