Ronaldo to become pa, marry first

SAO PAULO: Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo said on his 23rd birthday that his girlfriend was pregnant with his child. The Inter Milan striker told Brazil’s TV Globo yesterday that the baby is due in April or May and the couple plans to wed in December in Brazil. “It was a big dream for me to be a father and I found the right person,” he told Globo as he hugged the blond Milene Domingues, a talented soccer player. Ronaldo started dating Milene earlier this year after breaking off a three-year relationship with model Susana Werner.

Egypt champions

CAIRO: Egypt won the World team squash championship for the first time, crushing Wales in a heated 3-0 match in yesterday’s finals. Ahmed Barada of Egypt and Welshman Alex Gough thrilled spectators with five rounds, Barada winning the deciding game 9-6. England defeated Australia 2-1 to win third place.

Spain fetes Graf

OVIEDO: Steffi Graf, 30, was today awarded the prestigious Spanish Prince ofAsturias Prize, the jury said in Oviedo, northern Spain. Graf was awarded the prize for her brilliant tennis career, said the jury presided by Juan Antonio Samaranch, the president of the International Olympic Committee.The prize, named after the Spanish crown prince, is awarded annually in eight categories. It comprises five million pesetas ($ 32,000) and a sculpture by artist Joan Miro.

Beckham let off

LONDON: Manchester United midfielder David Beckham has escaped punishment for kicking Sturm Graz midfielder Tomislav Kocijan during Wednesday’s Champions league clash in Austria.Referee Alfredo Trentalange did not mention the incident in his match report to Uefa. Beckham caught Kocijan with his right boot in full view of Trentalange.
