Se-Ri wins LPGA Tour play-off
Las Vegas: South Korea’s Pak Se-Ri sank an eight-foot birdie putt on the first play-off hole to defeat Karrie Webb and defending champion Laura Davies in the season-ending LPGA Tour championship. Webb and Davies both parred the 18th on the first sudden-death hole before Pak sealed her fourth victory of 1999 with the winning putt. Pak, last year’s rookie of the year, collected $ 215,000.

Title for Davenport
Philadelphia:
Second-seeded American Lindsay Davenport upset top seed Martina Hingis of Switzerland 6-3 6-4 on Sunday to capture her sixth WTA Tour title of the year. Hingis, whose Australian Open triumph in January was her only Grand Slam title of the season, saved one match point in the 10th game with a service winner.

The American finally nailed a backhand crosscourt winner on her third match point.

IOC, US trade blows

United States White House advisor on drugs General Barry McCaffrey told an international Drugs in Sportsummit that the International Olympic Committee was not the right body to run the war on drugs cheats.Gen McCaffrey said the IOC froze out the US when it set up the world anti-doping agency (WADA) last week. Kevan Gosper, another IOC vice-president, rebuffed the four-star general.

European champions Russia suffered a scare before beating Brazil in the final set to chalk up their 10th straight win in the World Cup women’s voleyball tournament. The Russians won 21-25, 25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 15-9 to remain unbeaten in the 12-team round robin event.
