MYSORE, JUNE 3: Controversial godman Chandraswamy is said to have set his eyes on Mysore to extend his `spiritual’ activities by setting up an ashram, away from his present Delhi abode.

According to sources, Chandraswamy is said to have assigned his close follower and seer of Shanthi Dhama Ashram Chandrashekara Swamy, based at Bangalore, to identify land in or around the city.

Chandrashekara Swamy, a close follower of Chandraswamy, is said be in constant touch with him. The duo is said to have met in Bangalore recently on a `spiritual mission’. According to religious heads here, the setting up of the ashram was finalised at the Bangalore meeting.

A film producer of Devalapura, near here, had offered land for Chandrashekara Swamy free of cost to set up an ashram around 15 km from Mysore. The final decision, however, is left to Chandraswamy, who is expected to inspect the place on Sunday on his way back from Mangalore.

The godman is visiting Mangalore on a spiritual mission and is expected to meet the producer.

According to revenue records, a seer of Bangalore has finalised the land deal with a person at Kuppalooru village near JP Nagar.

The registration of the land has been held up by the Revenue authorities due to undervaluation. The Revenue authorities, however, said there was a minor technical hitch and the land would have to be eventually registered in the name of the seer. A total of around 13 acres has been purchased.

Deputy Commissioner B Basavaraju said that he was unaware of the Swamiji or his land dealings in Mysore taluk. “However, the land transaction could have happened on benami,”he added.
