July 18: The tenders floated for leasing out space within the commercial complex situated at the Vashi railway station have evoked a good response, with the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) receiving a total of 224 applications.

In one of the first attempts to utilise the space available at railway stations, CIDCO had built commercial complexes integrated with the Vashi, Belapur, and Nerul stations. Tenders had been floated for the Vashi station complex for a total of 56 kiosks, restaurants, communication centres and book stalls. The mood at CIDCO was upbeat, specially given the sluggish real estate market conditions for the last three years. A CIDCO spokesperson said the response to these tenders had “encouraged” them to sell space in all the station complexes at Nerul, Juinagar, Sanpada and Belapur as well.Added the general secretary of the Navi Mumbai Builders’ and Welfare Association, Atul Kumar Agrawal, “The response clearly indicates that the market is on its road to recovery.”
