
VADODARA, JAN 21: In a bid to smoothen public distribution system and check blackmarketing of grains, pulses and kerosene, district supply officials inspected about a dozen outlets in city and seized items worth Rs 1.2 lakh in the past two days.
While earlier the officials inspected kerosene distribution outlets and seized kerosene worth about Rs 3,000 in the past two weeks, more than three pulse mills were inspected on Wednesday and tuar worth Rs 60,000 was seized from C B Shah And Company, Padra. DSO Ashok Singh told Express Newsline that the goods were seized as the shop did not maintain an account for it.
Also, the DSO staff on Thursday inspected two wholesale shops at Haathikhana and seized wheat, grains and pulses worth about Rs 74,000. According to Singh, officials raided Tribhuvan Chelaram and Company at Hathikhana and seized grains and wheat worth Rs 53,000. Likewise, several items worth about Rs 21,000 were sieged from M/s M M N Company in the same area.
The accused had not maintained proper records for the commodities, Singh said, adding that until the matter was being investigated, the goods would be under custody.
Following another inspection, the DSO staff seized about 1600 litres of kerosene from a hawker after receiving several complaints against him. It was alleged that the accused charged premium from the ration-card holders, Singh added.
