Pullella Gopichand has pulled out of the All England Open championship this year owing to injury. The former champion has injured for quite some time now and his omission was on expected lines.

Announcing the teams for the prestigious British tournament as well as the Swiss and French Open, VK Verma — president of the Badminton Association of India — said here on Tuesday that no doubles players were considered.

In the women’s section, Aparna Popat will, however, spearhead the Indian challenge for the England event and the French Open as well. Coaches for all events would be announced later.

The Teams: Men’s: B Chetan Anand, Abhinn Shyam Gupta, Nikhil Kanetkar (for All England & Swiss Open); JBS Vidyadhar, Thomas Kurien (All England & French Open).

Women’s: Aparna Popat, BR Meenakshi, Trupti Murgunde (All England & French Open).
