Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has no dearth of admirers in the state, beginning with none other than Governor Kailashpati Mishra.

Speaking of his visit to Modi’s house in Vadnagar, Mishra said he had touched the feet of 87-year-old Hiraben, the Chief Minister’s mother. ‘‘I could not hold myself back and so I touched the feet of someone who has given birth to a patriot like Narendrabhai,’’ Mishra declared. Modi’s brothers Somabhai and Pankajbhai were present when the Governor called on their mother.

Mishra then paid respect to the soil of Vadnagar, where he was inaugurating the Tana-Riri Malhar Raag Mahotsav, named after two legendary classical singers of the town. ‘‘I pay respect to Vadnagar’s soil, which has produced singers like Tana and Riri, and also Modi,’’ Mishra said.
