This is one VIP grandson’s visit the city police are unlikely to forget. In town for Governor Mohammed Fazal’s 81st birthday yesterday, 19-year-old Ali Fazal decided that he’d skip the throng of the visitors at Raj Bhavan and experience Mumbai nightlife instead.
Ali left in an official Fiat car (MH01BA2525) with its driver around noon and when the family noticed he was gone for a long time, they panicked. Worried that the grandson had gone missing, the police were put on high alert last evening.
He returned home on his own past midnight. Raj Bhavan refused to comment on the matter. Police sources said that the high alert was total. An estimated 2,000 policemen were alerted and beat marshals on motorcycles were ordered to look out for the official car.
The policemen were also asked to confirm if any accidents had been reported since the afternoon. Meanwhile, a relative at Raj Bhavan went to Ali’s room and pressed the redial button on the phone. It was picked up by one of Ali’s friends at Parel. The friend told them that Ali and he had been at a hotel near Lower Parel and Ali has already left for Raj Bhavan. Ali returned at 12.30 am.
