AHMEDNAGAR, Dec 6: Republican Party of India leader and MP Ramdas Athawale has accused the saffron alliance government of not holding the cabinet meetings in Pune and Aurangabad. It had thus ignoring the promises made in the Nagpur agreement, the Dalit leader said The State Government’s failure to honour the promises made in the Nagpur agreement indirectly causes injustice to the backward regions of the State, is the increasing feeling among people of these areas, Athawale said.

The Nagpur agreement was signed before the creation of Maharashtra State, which provided for holding two

sessions of the State Legislature, one in Mumbai and one in Nagpur every year, Athawale said. He added that, however, people of Marathwada had not put any conditions for agreeing to merge the region with Maharashtra. It was decided to hold at least one meeting of the State Cabinet every year in Aurangabad and one in Pune. All these conventions are now forgotten, Athawale said.

If the meetings of the State Cabinet were held in Pune or Aurangabad, the problems and issues of these regions like excess rains and wet famine could have figured in the deliberations, Athawale said. It only proves that the State Government is least bothered about old conventions or the problems faced by the people, he charged.
