Reacting to the Union Budget, the BJP on Wednesday questioned the UPA Government’s commitment to the reforms process, saying its policies cannot result in consistent growth. It also accused the government of ignoring the common man and not providing anything for rural development.

“The reforms process that began in 1991, and which we carried forward, is not in evidence any more,” said BJP president Rajnath Singh.

Fresh from victories in Punjab and Uttarakhand, Singh said the Budget reflected the government’s unwillingness to learn from mistakes.

“No steps have been suggested to control price rise,” said Singh.“The Finance Minister has also been timid on the taxation front. He has given no worthwhile concessions to the middle class. On the other hand, he has increased the burden on the tax-payer.”
