New Delhi today rejected Islamabad’s suggestion for international monitoring of the borders to check infiltration on the grounds that there was a lack of ‘‘sufficient trust’’ between the two countries.

On the peace overtures, an MEA spokesman said India had already made two proposals and it was awaiting a reciprocal response from Islamabad. On the offer to jointly monitor borders, he said: ‘‘We have been saying nobody knows the terrain better than India and Pakistan. There is a possibility of joint monitoring in case of sufficient amount of trust.’’
