If the Union Women and Child Development Ministry has its way, molesters will face a hard time as the Government is planning to make the laws stricter for the culprits.
Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhury, who held a meeting with officials from the National Commission for Women and a group of lawyers on Tuesday to discuss Section 498-A of the IPC related to dowry and laws dealing with molestation and fraudulent NRI marriages, said her ministry was examining the issue.

In a bid to make it easier for the sufferers, the officials present at the meeting suggested to the lawyers that a way should be found so that such cases can be completed in two hearing. “This will stop victimisation,” added another Ministry official.
The Minister also said the ministry was examining other laws concerning women, including those relating to fraudulent marriages. “We are examining the whole gamut of law, keeping the interest and safety of women in mind. There are tricky situations, like a girl marries an NRI groom and later gets to know that he is already married,” she said.
