NEW DELHI, NOV 22: Government proposes to bring a fresh legislation in Parliament to confer statutory status to the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and vest it with supervisory role on the functioning of CBI and Enforcement Directorate to implement the concept of "zero tolerance" to corruption, official sources said on Monday.

The issue was reviewed and discussed in detail by a group of ministers (GoM) headed by Home Minister L K Advani today and its recommendations would be placed before the Cabinet for approval.

The GoM, which included Cabinet Ministers Yashwant Sinha, Pramod Mahajan and Nitish Kumar and Ministers of State Arun Jaitley and Vasundhara Raje, examined in detail the proposed bill to be brought in Parliament during the coming winter session to allow its expeditious clearance by the Cabinet, the sources said.

The SC had held that the CVC be made a statutory body to supervise the working of CBI and Enforcement Directorate.
