NEW DELHI, OCT 1: The Government has received a notice from the International Court of Arbitration (ICA) on a petition by Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) challenging R S S L N Bhaskarudu’s appointment as the managing director of Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL).
Industry ministry sources said the government received the notice last night from the Paris-based ICA and has 30 days to reply to it.
The sources said government is in the process of taking legal opinion on the issue and is likely to decide on nomination of an arbitrator. The SMC has already nominated Lord Mustil as its arbitrator. SMC had approached the ICA on the dispute over the appointment of Bhaskarudu, a government nominee, on September 17 and had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the AGM of September 22.
SMC vice president, Yoshio Saito, had said IT would withdraw the arbitration proceedings if talks with the government yielded an acceptable solution.
