National political parties can avail government accommodation in the Capital only for a maximum of three years after which they would have to find some other alternative.

According to the official guidelines of the Government released today, political parties recognised by the Election Commission would be allotted one house from the general pool in Delhi at a set licence fee for a period of three years.

After the expiry of three years, the political party would have to vacate the premises. Also only one residential accommodation would be allowed for the party president, but only in cases where the person does not have a house here either allotted by the Government or his own.

The recognised state-level political parties would also be entitled to Government accommodation, provided these parties have adequate representation in Parliament and have the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Accommodation. Only those recognised state-level parties, which have a strength of seven members in both Houses of Parliament would be eligible for allotment of accommodation in Vithabhai Patel House.

The guidelines have also fixed the quota for accommodation for the staff of the Parliamentary parties.
