Govt to create 3 special DG posts in CRPF, BSF

In a bid to clear the log jam for promotions to the rank of Directors General of Police and Additional Directors General of Police, the Home Ministry has proposed in situ promotions for officers of 1973, 74 and 75 IPS batches with the creation of three additional Special Director General posts each in CRPF and BSF respectively.

Government sources said that the MHA has moved the Ministry of Personnel and the PMO for pushing the promotions of officers belonging to the 1973, 74 and 75 batches, who are stuck due to lack of vacancies. Even though the 1974 batch has been empanelled as DG at the Centre, a number of officers still have to pick up rank due to lack of posts. This has resulted in the DG empanelment of the 1974 batch being held up since the past year.

The cascading effect has reached the 1975 batch, which was empanelled as Additional DGP at the Centre last April. To ensure that officers get their due promotions, the MHA now wants three new DG rank posts to be created in CRPF and BSF, which are at the helm of counter-insurgency operations in border states.

Justified in the name of better command and control, the six new special DG posts will actually mean in situ promotions for the senior officers in these Central police organisations.
