MUMBAI, June 16: A division bench of the Bombay High Court today directed the state government to produce files pertaining to the transfer of Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Pandey. He was conducting an enquiry into the multi-crore cobbler scam before he was transferred out of the Economics Offences Wing of the city police.

Chief Justice M B Shah and Justice Ranjana Desai today issued the direction while hearing a writ petition filed by Asmita Jyoti, a non-governmental organisation working for the uplift of cobblers.

The petition challenged the transfer of the DCP, stating

that it was malafide, arbitrary and done at the instance of Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde. It prayed for recalling Pandey to the same post to investigate the scam.

The counsel for the petitioner, Sona Pardasani and Pradeep Havnoor, urged that investigations be carried out under the supervision of the court. The public prosecutor R Govilkar said Pandey’s transfer was a routine affair. He offered to produce concerned files. The court adjourned the matter to June 23 and asked for the files.
