Gujjar violence hit railways, 10 trains cancelled

Ten trains passing through Rajasthan were cancelled for the 5th consecutive day and several others diverted.

Ten trains passing through Rajasthan were cancelled for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday and several others diverted to different routes following the violent agitation by the Gujjar community in the state.

Railway officials said the trains have been cancelled in the interest of passengers’ safety since the protesters are targeting railway properties also.

The train services have been stopped due to the agitation by Gujjar Samaj Mahapanchayat Samiti and largescale public disturbance between Gangapur City-Bayana section in Kota Division, a Northern Railway statement said.

The trains that have been cancelled are August Kranti Express, Dehradun-Bandra Terminus Express, Nizamuddin-Udaipur Intercity Express, Nizamuddin-Indore Intercity Express and Firozpur-Mumbai Janta Express.

In addition, Nizamuddin-Kota Jan Shatabdi Express, Maharashtra Samprak Kranti, Nizamuddin-Kochuvelli Rajdhani Special, Jammu Tawi-Bandra Swaraj Express and Jammu Tawi-Bandra AC Special were also cancelled.

The trains that have been diverted to other routes are New Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani Express, Paschim Express, Swaraj Express, Golden Temple Mail and New Delhi-Kochivalli Express.

The situation is very bad. Railways properties have been damaged at several places in Rajasthan. Protestors have uprooted the railway tracks at many places. It is not possible to continue the train services in such circumstances, a senior Railway official said.
