MUMBAI, JUNE 10: Gurmeet Singh Rao’s brace of goals helped Sports Authority of India overpower Union Bank 3-1 in the Punjab National Bank-sponsored Senior Division Hockey league match at the Mahindra Stadium here today.Sai scored in the second half when half-back Mohd Shams’s hit from 25-yard line was deflected and the ball rolled to Gurmeet who pounced on it and scooped past UBI goalkeeper Ryan Sequira for the first goal in the 49th minute.

The second goal came in four minutes with Azad Khan setting up Gurmeet Singh. Gurmeet dribbled past a couple of defenders and pushed it past the goalkeeper.

Union Bank, who looked tired by the end of the match, however, pulled one back due to a defensive lapse by Sai defence with Sameer Jadhav scoring the goal. Asad Khan scored the third goal in the 66th minute.

DBYC pip Worli SC

A penultimate minute penalty strike helped Don Bosco Youth Centre, Kurla (DBYC) beat Worli Sports Club in a Division III B football league tie organised by MDFA and played at theSt Xavier’S Ground, Parel today.

DBYC earned the penalty when a Worli defender handled the ball while trying to block a free-kick, promting the referee to point the ball to the dreaded spot. Paul Brown took the strike and made no mistake.

After an even first-half, Worli looked to have taken control of the game after half-time as they managed quite a few shys at the DBYC post. But custodian Deepak Kamble did a good job in denying Worli any goals.
