
CHANDIGARH, Nov 18: Faced with increasing criticism over non-availability of DAP in the state, Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal has started monitoring its supply and distribution. The government is also taking steps to check hoarding, black marketing and pilferage of DAP fertiliser.
Minister of State for Agriculture Krishna Gahlawat said the government had made arrangements for 2.56 lakh metric tonne of DAP for the current season against a consumption of 2.31 lakh metric tonne during the last rabi season. For sowing of wheat crop till this month, 2.19 lakh metric tonne of DAP would be made available to farmers in the state as against its consumption of 1.99 lakh metric tonne in the corresponding period last year, she pointed out.
The minister said maximum sale of DAP would be through the network of state institutional agencies like the Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation, Agro-Industries Corporation and the Land Reclamation Development Corporation. The government has directed all the deputy commissioners, superintendents of police and deputy directors of Agriculture Department in the state to monitor DAP supply, sale and distribution regularly and keep a close vigil in border districts to check its supply to adjoining states.
Besides, police check-posts have also been set up at vulnerable points, according to an official spokesman. DAP sale in private sector was being supervised by the Agriculture Department and District Administration. The state government was in constant touch with the Union Ministries of Chemical and Fertilisers, Agriculture and Railways to ensure timely supply of adequate DAP quantity in the state, the minister said.
Ambala: The Ambala District Kisan Congress (I) Committee, Rural, has expressed concern over the delay in the sowing of wheat due to non-availability of DAP fertilizer. In a resolution adopted at its meeting chaired by district president Sampuran Singh, it alleged an artificial shortage of the DAP had been created.
