Nervous on having to face a new electorate in the Assembly elections in February, the political parties in Haryana today made a sucessful campaign against delimitation of the Lok Sabha and the Assembly constituencies. In a rare show of strength, leaders from all parties — Indian National Lok Dal BJP and Congress — opposed the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission at a meeting with the Election Commission here today. The reasons were clear — each parties thought it was too difficult for their nominees to vibe with new constituencies in short span. After a nearly 75-minute meeting, the EC accepted the recommendations from all the parties that the ‘‘ongoing process of delimitation of constituencies be declared null and void and fresh consultations should start only after the next government takes charge.’’ The delimitation process is to be completed by December 7, sources said. The delimitation would have changed the constituency profile of several stalwarts including CM Om Prakash Chautala and state Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Chautala’s constituency Narwana, INLD sources said, was likely to be declared as reserved constituency while Hooda’s was being merged with Bhiwani.
