The talks between representatives of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) and the Haryana government, which broke down over remission of pending power bills, are being resumed in Jind tomorrow. This was confirmed by BKU state chief Ghasi Ram Nain and government committee leader and Finance Minister Sampat Singh.

Nain had earlier held a seven-hour session with other BKU members to finalise issues to be taken up at the meeting. Besides Nain, state general-secretary Ramphal Kandela, Jind unit president Mohinder Ghimana, Hisar unit president Bijender alias Billu, Kaithal district unit general secretary Jia Lal and Rohtak district chief Dharmvir Hooda participated.

Nain said the threat to disrupt water supply to Delhi will hold if their demands are not met. Since the state had accepted their demand for withdrawal of cases, the remaining issues of remission of power bills, compensation to families of those killed in police firing and scrapping of Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1887, would be taken up at the meeting.

Nain added one more demand of reduction in power rates. He said BKU executive committee had finalised their next course of action. ‘‘But we cannot divulge details right now,’’ he said.

Minister Sampat Singh said: ‘‘Now that the government has decided to resume the dialogue, the BKU should lift the blockade of roads which was causing great hardship to the people.’’
