JALANDHAR, Dec 21: Haryana XI entered the final in the women’s section of the second All-India Ramesh Chand Memorial hockey tournament despite losing their last league match to Sukhjit Starch Mill (Phagwara) here today.The winners Sukhjit Mills led 2-0 at half time.
The goal scorers for the winners were Harbinder Kaur, Rajbinder Kaur and A R Kaur for the Haryana XI while Sarika scored the lone goal.
In the men’s league encounters, Last year’s winners, Punjab and Sind Bank were locked in a 1-1 draw with the last year’s runners up, Punjab Police.
In other matches in the men’s section SAIL beat Air India 3-1 while Satluj PSB Academy drew 1-1 with CRPF.
Punjab team
Chandigarh: Hari Krishan will lead Punjab in the All-India Vijay Merchant (under 16) cricket tournament. The knock-out stage will beging from December 5 at Patiala. Punjab were the North Zone champions while Haryana were the other team to qualify for this stage, being the zonal runners up.
A combined coaching-cum-pratice camp for the team will be held at Patiala from December 25 to January 3. Haryana’s honour
Hisar: The Haryana State Women Hockey Association will felicitate five players of the state who were part of the Indian women hockey team which won silver medal at the Bangkok Asian Games.
The players – skipper Pritam Rani, Kamla Dalal, Sunita, Sandeep and Surender Kaur – would be felicitated during a tournament at the month end at Agroha in Hisar District, Krishna Sampat Singh, president of the association said here today.
Meanwhile, the Haryana State Amateur Athletic Association has also decided to honour athletes Shakti Singh and Anil Kumar who won silver medals in shot put and discuss throw respectively at a function next month, president of the association Abhey Singh Chautala said in a statement here today.

Hoshiarpur: Kherar, Kalewal Bhagtan, Langeri Red and Nangal Khilarian entered the last 16 of the 18th Punjab Rural soccer championship being played at the village Nangal Khilarian near here today.
Kherar beat Bhullewal 1-0, Kalewal Bhagtan beat Chandeli 2-0, Langeri Redbeat Khera 4-2 (via tie-breaker) and Nangal Khilarian beat Makhangarh 1-0.
In other matches, Jaitpur beat Dhakkon 4-1, Sarangwal beat Chak Mallan 1-0, Nangal Khilarian `B’ beat Sakrooli 1-0 while Gujar got a walkover from Rampur.
