The Punjab and Haryana High Court has dismissed the anticipatory bail application of Daler Mehndi, following a request of the state that the singer’s custodial interrogation was necessary for investigating a case of alleged human trafficking. Taking suo motu action, the court also directed the Inspector-General of Patiala range to file an affidavit on the injuries caused to Daler and his friend when he went to deposit surety at a Patiala police station. The court permitted Daler’s counsel to meet him twice a day and consented to a weekly check-up of the singer during his interrogation. Daler had sought anticipatory bail in two cases — one involving a case of human trafficking and another of allegedly threatening an assistant sub-inspector through his secretary. Daler’s counsel said they will now approach the Supreme Court for anticipatory bail.
