Records related to the Best Bakery case have been handed over to the Bombay High Court for conducting the retrial as directed by the Supreme Court, sources said on Sunday.
The Gujarat High Court registrar handed over the papers to Additional Sessions Judge A.M. Thipsay last week, who would now conduct the case in Mumbai.
In keeping with the Supreme Court’s directive of transferring the trial to Maharashtra, the Bombay High Court had appointed Thipsay on May 10. In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court had on April 12 quashed the acquittal of the 21 accused in the Best Bakery riot case, ordered re-trial of the case, and shifted it to a Maharashtra court.
