Gujarat High Court witnessed an unprecedented incident on Thursday: one judge complaining that another had misbehaved with him.

The two judges involved are Justice P B Majmudar and Justice B J Shethna, with the former complaining to Acting Chief Justice Y R Meena.

When approached by reporters, Justice Meena said: “Justice Majmudar had come to see me in the morning and he said Justice Shethna had done some badtamizi with him in the morning.”

He did not give out any details, and said: “It was an individual matter involving two judges. You ask them what exactly happened between them.”

He also refused to speak on whether Justice Majmudar had sought permission for filing a police case against Justice Shethna. Said Justice Meena: “It’s an individual matter, which does not require my permission.”

Asked if he’d received a written complaint, Justice Meena said: “My office would have received it.”

Meanwhile, Justice Majmudar’s son Sharvil, who practises at Gujarat High Court, has moved an application before the Acting Chief Justice, requesting that his cases not be put up before Justice Shethna.
