The Rajasthan High Court today issued show-cause notices to 47 food companies including MNCs, the Centre and state government for not specifying pesticide content in food products.A division bench comprising Justice S.K. Keshot and Justice Ajay Rastogi issued notices on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by an NGO in which the petitioner stated that the food materials, particularly the packed products made by these companies, have higher pesticide content, much more than the prescribed maximum residue limit.The NGO, Public Action Group, quoting the research reports of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute as well as the Indian Council of Medical Research, told the High Court that the high pesticide contents in the products have a harmful effect on the people, particularly infants.
