The Gujarat High Court today finished hearing the anticipatory bail petition of Shilpa Shetty’s father Surendra, accused in a case of extortion lodged by Prafful sarees owner Pankaj Agarwal, and indicated that it was inclined to reject the bail plea.
The court asked Surendra’s counsel to either withdraw the bail application or wait for an order in the matter tomorrow.
The court also did not extend its protection to Surendra against arrest which expired today. Prosecution advocate Arun Oza opposed Surendra’s anticipatory bail plea, arguing that in view of the evidence collected by the police, a prima facie case of extortion was made out and the agency needed the custody of Surendra to quiz him about his reported underworld links.
