PUNE, Jan 20: Hema Malini, the silver screen’s dream girl, presented a blend of Bharat Natyam and Odissi along with her daughter Esha Deol at the Osho Commune International on Monday night.
They were performing for first time together. The superbly choreographed dance began with Esha’s graceful mangalacharan, followed by Vrishti (showers) — the aesthetic description of the monsoon, taken from Kalidasa’s Meghdoot.
Next, Hema appeared glittering like a true star. She performed three dances portraying the different aspects of the feminine principle — Durga, Tridevi and Gayatri.
She enhanced her abhinaya with emotion, an intrinsic part of classical dance making her ashtapadi of Jayadeva extremely juicy. She went on to express the amorous advances of Radha, the symbol of the eternal beloved. The mother and daughter brought the performance to an end with a mixed composition of Odissi and Bharat Natyam named moksha — salvation. As the two dance forms merged together, it heralded the meeting of two generations, two styles and two souls. Hema embraced Esha in an artistic gesture, as the past and future dissolving into the present.
"I visited the Osho Commune for the first time two months ago. I had no idea that I would perform here. The experience was lovely," said the dream girl of yester years.
