Two persons died in two separate road accidents in the city on Tuesday. A VTCOS city bus ran over a 39-year-old street dweller near the Sayajigunj VTCOS bus stand. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained, the police said, adding that the driver absconded from the spot in the afternoon. This was the first ever involvement in a road accident by a VTCOS bus since the services were first introduced. In the second case, one Manoj Chaubey (30), a resident of Narayan Society was killed instantly after his Honda Activa scooter slipped and smashed into a wall.

Theft in broad daylight
Thieves broke into the house of one Anindya Roy, a resident of Anand Park in Binanagar, in broad daylight and fled with cash and jewellery totalling Rs 47,500. According to the complaint at the J P Nagar police station on Tuesday afternoon, the theft took place between 11.30 am and 12.10 pm when Roy’s wife had gone to a neighbour’s house leaving the door open. The couple was staying on rent, and the area has seen three thefts in recent times.
