Heavy rains continued to wreak havoc in Maharashtra on Wednesday, affecting movement of transport and causing damage to life and property.
The Mumbai-Agra highway, which was blocked near Igatpuri since yesterday due to a landslide at Kasara Ghat, was partly cleared for traffic at 2 am.
Executive engineer of the Nashik division of the National Highways Authority V.D. Patil said vehicles were being released in batches on the single lane opened for traffic. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Mumbai-Goa highway were also hit by landslides.
Movement of local and long-distance trains on the Central and Western Railway lines were also disrupted. Several trains were either cancelled or rescheduled.
