Himalayan Rally evokes huge response

Nagpur, August 25: HP Engine Oils-The Great Himalayan Motor Race, recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the race conducted on the world’s highest motorable road — from Leh (altitude: 11,000 ft.) to North Pullu via Khardung-la top (altitude: 18,380 ft), has evoked an encouraging response from the motor sport enthusiasts. The race will be held on September 2.

Indian Army’s Adventure Wing (14 Corps, Leh) will offer logistic and administrative support for the event. Col. Williams Issac and Col Bajpai are the coordinators.

The race, to be flagged off from Leh’s Fire and Fury Institute on September 2, will run for 100km via Khardung-la Top — world’s highest motorable road point and end at North Pullu — a military traffic control post down in the Nubra Vally, a road point beyond which falls the world’s highest battle field — the Siachen Glaciers. The competitors will have to scale the height of 7,000ft in just 41km patch, informs Mehernosh Mavalwala, rally COC, who is leading the VARA advance party in Leh.
