Chennai’s ’keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, who has struggled to find a permanent place in the Indian team, has lost his spot in Chennai’s scheme of things too. Chennai bid for Dhoni at a whopping price of Rs 6 crore, Rs 4.4 crore more than his reserve price — thus leaving Karthik out of the picture. The youngster, whose base price was Rs 80 lakh, was sold to Team Delhi at Rs 2.1 crore. Gujarat’s wicket-keeper-batsman Parthiv Patel, who belongs to the catchment area of Team Jaipur, was sold for Rs 1.6 crore to Team Chennai. Patel’s reserve price was Rs 60 lakh. With Dhoni, IPL’s costliest cricketer, already a part of Team Chennai, don’t bet on Patel taking the field.
Over-priced, Bhajji?
Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, whose base price was a mere Rs 90 lakh was sold for a whopping Rs 3.4 crore to Team Mumbai. Harbhajan fetched a hike of Rs 2.4 crore. Given the money that has been offered to Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan, who were sold at Rs 1.8 crore and Rs 2.4 crore respectively, Harbhajan’s value definitely seems to be overrated.
Apart from Harbhajan, Mumbai ended up bidding for Sanath Jayasuriya, Shaun Pollock and Robin Uthappa (the only member of Young Team India).
