
DEC 27: Hosts Delhi took the overall honours in all the six games of the 46th National School Games which concluded here on Wednesday.
Delhi boys secured golds in cricket, hockey and basketball, finished at the top on overall point bases in Judo and wrestling, and were declared joint winners with Haryana in Kabaddi.
Not to be left behind Delhi girls too emerged at the top in all games except basketball where Kerela beat the hosts to win gold. In hockey, kabaddi and judo, three of the four games in which girls participated, Delhi girls won golds or finished on top on overall point basis.Delhi boys beat Gujarat by 15 runs in a close encounter to win the C K Nayudu limited overs cricket tournament. Batting first Delhi scored 186 in their alloted 40 overs with important contributions by Sunil (46) and Gaurav (43).
Gujarat started the chase well with some gusty batting by Anirudh (72) and Sandeep (67) but lost wickets at regular intervals to be bundled out for 172 in the last over of the inings. Amit Mishra took four wickets for 36 runs for Delhi.
In hockey, Delhi boys easily overcame Punjab 5-0 to win gold. Gajinder Singh scored three goals while Sudhir, Dinesh Rana and Rajinder Singh chipped in with one each.
In girls hockey final, Delhi beat Punjab 2-1. Rakhi and Neelam scored one goal each for the winners while Arun Bala scored for Punjab.
In u-17 boys basketball final Delhi outplayed Rajasthan 49-46 through Bijender’s outstanding show. He scored 21 points while Ravinder (18) and Chetan (10) also chipped in.
Delhi girls, however, lost the basketball final to Kerala 22-47. Kerala girls called the shots from the start taking early leads with some good basketball played by Lissa, who scored 20 points to end up as the highest scorer for the team.
In Judo (played for u-14, u17, u-19) both Delhi girls and boys won maximum individual golds in various weight categories to emerge at the top with overall 60 and 54 points respectively.
Judo championship results : Boys: Delhi (60 pts), Punjab (50 pts) and Haryana (38 pts); Girls: Delhi (54 pts), Punjab (50 pts) and Haryana (33 points).
In u-14 boys judo final played today Harshal (Madhya Pradesh) beat Vishal Dahiya (Haryana) to take take gold while Rakesh Gill (Delhi) and Harjeet Singh (Punjab) shared bronze.
In Kabaddi (played for only u-19 boys and girls) finals for boys Delhi was declared joint winners with Haryana while Uttar Pradesh took the bronze.
In girls kabaddi final, Delhi beat Maharashtra 57-23 while West Bengal secured the third place.
In wrestling (played for u-14, u-17, u-19 boys) Delhi won the maximum gold medals to finish at the top with 50 points followed by Haryana while Uttar Pradesh took the third place.
In today’s wrestling finals for u-14, Jitender Kumar (Delhi), Sunil Kumar (Delhi), Dinesh Kumar (Delhi), Sandeep (Maharashtra), Nar Singh Yadav (Maharashtra), Sukhvinder (Delhi), Feroze Makander (Maharashtra), Pawan Kumar (Delhi), Pardeep (Delhi), Deepak (Delhi), Satpal (Haryana) and Sant Kumar (Delhi) won golds in 25, 28, 30, 32, 35, 38, 41, 45, 49, 55, 60, and plus-60 weight categories.
