Commercial use of auto LPG is expected to take off in a big way by the end of this financial year. HPCL has decided to set up 42 auto LPG dispensing stations across the country during 2002-03. Delhi would have 16 auto LPG stations. HPCL is also in talks with Italian auto LPG kit manufacturer OMVL for marketing of the kits.

These are priced at around Rs 23,000 as compared to Rs 33,000 for the CNG kits. HPCL GM K. Muralidharan said that HPCL plans to set up 40-42 auto LPG dispensing stations this fiscal. Out of this 16 would be in Delhi. In phase-!, the company would set up stations in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad. He stated that along with stations from other firms, by year-end Delhi is expected to have around 25 auto LPG stations. The fuel is at present priced at Rs 17.15 per litre. In phase II, auto LPG dispensing stations would be set up in Calcutta, Bhopal, Jaipur, Indore, Lucknow, Agra, Chennai and Varanasi.
