May 19: Candidates who have cleared their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams last year will be issued their certificates soon.

Students and college principals heaved a sigh of relief since the delay in the release of these certificates by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education would have seriously affected the current FYBA/B.Com/B.Sc results.

The Divisional Board Secretary, Gurunath Kanthe, told Express Newsline on Monday: “The passing certificates have already been sent for printing and we shall be distributing them to various junior colleges.” Interestingly, for the first time the Board will print the certificates in English as well as in Marathi.

“Since the past few weeks the college principals were in a dilemma over the declaration of FY results as technically the students were not yet enrolled with the Mumbai University. The HSC passing certificates is strictly required for the enrolment,” said Principal M G Shirahatti of Lala Lajpatrai College.

As per the rules, the students were not even eligible to appear for the first year degree examinations; however, due to the delay on part of the Board, a stop-gap arrangement was made for administrative purposes.
