CHANDIGARH, MARCH 5: The enforcement wing of the Haryana Urban Planning and Development Authority today demolished all the structures raised in the premises of Manav Kender near Mansa Devi complex. About 15 persons were reportedly injured, five of them seriously, after the police resorted to a mild lathi charge on the mob which was trying to resist the HUDA move.
While one Kunwar Singh with serious head injuries has been admitted to the PGI, four others, including two women, have been shifted to the Sector 6 Civil Hospital, Panchkula. However all the injured are stated to be out of danger, claimed Kender official.
Sources say that the HUDA enforcement staff, assisted by four bulldozers and a strong police force came to the Kender at 2.30 pm and removed all the five temporary structures, including main gate, kitchen and meditation centre within an hour of their arriving on the scene.
Criticising the demolition, Chandigarh Ruhani Satsang Society spokesman and member of the temple committee Ganga Singh alleged that order of the Haryana Industry Minister Shish Pal Mehta over these structures had not been complied with.
He said that the management committee of the Kender was ready to pay the cost of the land fixed for religious institutions. “We do not believe in confrontation and want peace”, he added.
