LET'S DANCE.Western Railway (left) and Maharashtra State Police vie for the ball at the Cooperage. Western won the Super Division match 3-2. MUMBAI, July 24: Siraj Hussain punished goalkeeper Chandrakant Kharade and Maharashtra State Police (MSP) with a last-minute winner in the Gulf Oil Super Division football league at the Cooperage, today. The luckless cops, entertaining their first point from five encounters with a sprightly performance today, were undone by a slipshod attempt at clearing by their keeper. Hussain exploited the blunder to bring Western Railway their first win and fourth point from five matches.Five matches into the league, MSP's fortunes remain barren although they gave indications of breaking that spell with a furious second-half assault after trailing by a goal.An open game spoke more for inept midfield play rather than enterprising moves by rival attacks, but it did make for some entertaining play. The cops came back strongly after the break and exhilarating runs by Abdul Fahim on the left looked promising. But visions of goals often disappeared as strikers Sanjay Surve, amusingly and consistently prodigal and Abdul Abid floundered with good chances.Inam-ul-Haq put the railway side ahead in the 20th minute, heading in Sameer Shaikh's long ball from the left after it sailed over the central defence. The goal reflected Western's domination that gave the cops little say in the proceedings until then.Western could have been sitting pretty with at least a two-goal cushion at half-time, but Siraj Hussain incredibly failed with a sitter. The miss was another chance gone abegging after Jose Daya went close on two occasions earlier in the game. But MSP's gusto after half-time took Western by surprise and a vigourous search for the equaliser fructified when Abdul Faim rose up to deflect in Ejaj Khan's free-kick near the flag on the hour.Western regained the lead against the run of play when Kaushik Pal slotted in angularly in the 76th minute after substitute midfielder Felix D'Souza split the field. But the cheers barely died down before arguably the season's best goal restored parity - Abdul Abid's waist-high side-volley from Sameer Shaikh entered the corner of Abdul Majeed's goal. With both sides resigning themselves to a draw after a flurry of end-to-end action in the last quarter, a ghastly combination of defensive blunders contrived MSP's doom.Felix Joseph grabbed the ball off a defender and his cross, helped along by Kharade's generosity, found Hussain burying it at the far corner from close.RIZVI DRAW: A late goal from a penalty by Patrick George helped Rizvi SC split points with Companeroes who took the lead through Lucio Fernandes in the First Division.KM SUVARNA NO MORE: Noted footballer, athlete and coach of Reserve Bank of India's football team, KM Suvarna passed away on Wednesday aged 66 after a long battle against illness.Suvarna leaves behind a wife, three daughters and a son, Ravi, a cricketer for Bombay Customs.
