On his lean patch

I have not done much in the series, so I am not really tired. I felt this year was not great Test-wise. In one-dayers I was okay. I think it was just a coincidence and some bad luck. (In this series) I needed to hang in there instead of nicking. Getting beaten would have been better. A couple of wake-up calls can really help at times.

On his innings today

I did not not want to get out come what may. I had decided that I would leave any delivery going outside the off-stump. I wanted to work it out on the legside instead. I waited the whole day to play my on-drives. I was happy I could concentrate so well and bat with patience. But the team would like to bat tomorrow and I would do my best to stay as long as possible.

One thing I do is not to read newspapers. I have not opened papers in the past few days and I will not do it tomorrow.

I dedicate this century to all those who stood by me when I was failing and showed full faith in my ability. I felt good during my 40-odd innings in Melbourne but there is one thing you are confident and quite another whether you are doing everything right.
