For someone who has been considered by many as the best cricket captain in the past few decades, Stephen Fleming begins with an unexpected compliment. “I like Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s captaincy a lot,” he says adding, “I guess it is his instinct that sets him apart. He has been instrumental in bringing out the best from his fellow players over the last few months and his captaincy in the Twenty20 World Cup was phenomenal. I hope he will mature as a Test captain too.”
Asked how it feels to play under Dhoni, Fleming’s answer was precise. “I am looking towards playing under Dhoni. It is a question asked more than a year ago, the only difference being it was then asked about Daniel Vettori. I equally enjoyed playing under Vettori. He has a different style of captaincy and I guess he is maturing as a captain. He shares good camaraderie with all the players,” Fleming said.
