I may stop playing ODI before Test cricket: Sachin

Sachin Tendulkar admits he would have to bid adieu to ODI cricket to prolong his Test career.

In the twilight of an illustrious career, Sachin Tendulkar admits he would have to bid adieu to ODI cricket at some point of time to prolong his Test career.

The Mumbai batsman is irked by rumours about a premature retirement and said it was completely unnecessary as he would let everyone know when he leaves the scene.

Tendulkar felt ODIs put his ageing body under the wear and tear. “ODIs put lot of pressure on your body and chances of injuries are more than Test cricket. So, probably ODI

cricket is the one I may stop playing before Test cricket,” he told a TV channel.

After 18 years in the business, Tendulkar is enticed by the longer version of the game and said, “Test cricket is definitely more challenging than ODI cricket and ODI puts lot of load on your body. But again if I make any decision (regarding retirement), I would let everyone know.”

The Mumbaikar fell all the hype around the final India-England ODI at the Lord’s being his last match on British soil resulted in speculation about his retirement.

“I don’t know where it started from. In fact I asked Anjali (his wife) and she said that all these things have started back home. I asked who started it, because I have not said anything. As far as I was concerned, I did not take any notice of all that because we had a very, very important game on hand and I was focusing on the (series deciding) Lord’s match, though people kept talking about it being my last ODI.”
